The Calling

The Calling

by BRIANNA ROSE BURTON

I threw a stone across the river
And watched it skip away,
And within the wind of life and nature,
I heard an angel say:

“Follow the path that calls on you
Until you reach the sky,
And watch the stairwell reach for you
As you are getting nigh.

“And once the path and you come near,
To the gates with silver lace,
Watch the stars from down beneath you
Welcome you with grace.

“Don’t fear the eyes that look at you,
Do not be afraid.
Just listen to the voice you hear,
Do not let it fade.

“And as it speaks, learn every word,
And keep it in your heart,
For you only go to heaven once,
And that is if you part.”
