Mortal Arms Embrace

Mortal Arms Embrace

by BRIANNA ROSE BURTON

Death has acquired a place here,
the roses have all turned to dirt,
the one thing abundant is fear,
making us weep when we hurt.

The darkness has risen before us,
embrace can’t be found through love,
pain is only so shallow to caress,
so through grief, we can’t rise above.

I have found peace in the longing,
in believing I live so one may,
it’s a fear to feel you’re belonging
in a world that’s filled with decay.

It’s a love that we cannot replace,
not by anything I can implore,
I plead, let my mortal arms embrace thee,
the life that is no more.
