Love’s Life-Breathing Wind
by BRIANNA ROSE BURTON
How do I love with kind heart for thee alone?
To live a life where I meet thy presence not,
to cease the heartache and the bitter rose’s thorn,
and dwell in peace, knowing only tender thought?
The land that is refreshed by love’s life-breathing wind,
is shuttered, cold, and dank without thee here.
And in the starless night, not even hatred bends,
nor doth love show the beauty of that glorious sphere.
But thou art here, in life, within the aching air,
thy presence flutters to reveal resplendent skies.
And as I slumber in thy love that is my care,
I see thy fervent face and zealous eyes.
But life for me for now just goes on,
as I find pleasure in thy postmortem song.
